A new and dynamic approach to upper quarter dysfunction.

This innovative course has been compiled from the newest international literature (updated to 2010) as well as from the presenters own research on identifying risk factors for shoulder injuries in elite sportsmen.

On this 2-day course you will learn to:
• Understand the biomechanics and clinical anatomy of the scapulo-thoracic, scapulo-humeral and cervical regions in a unique, clinically applicable manner.
• Recognise abnormal scapular and glenohumeral positional changes and its effect on the presenting pathology.
• Understand & identify the causative factors in various upper quarter syndromes.
• Predict risk for future injury of the upper quarter.
• Assess the upper quarter in detail. This includes postural, neural, relative flexibility, sequencing and length-tension tests as well as a new validated test to differentiate between scapular and glenohumeral dysfunction. A novel assessment form is provided for immediate use in your treatment rooms.
• Perform the important tests to identify various impingements & instabilities.
• Use clinical reasoning to identify source of symptoms and the appropriate management.
• Correctly teach your patient stabilisation of the scapula, deep neck flexors and glenohumeral joint from the initial acute phase (in neutral) to full return to their pre-injury level (dynamic control in elevated positions).
• Pre-habilitate injury risk factors to prevent injury, minimise costs and allow the professional athlete to be less hampered by persistent injury.
• Correctly ultilise myofascial release techniques to myofascia with restricted extensibility, such as Levator scapulae, Pectoralis minor, Infraspinatus and Teres minor.
• Progress rehabilitation in functionally ideal positions for optimal return to the patients pre-injury level.

This course is suited for the therapist involved in the treatment of patients  with shoulder and scapular pain and/ or instability. In particular, for those patients who do not respond well, or who frequently present with recurring injury. Skills taught on this course will be applicable for patients of all ages, both non-sporty & the elite althlete.

A revision of the anatomy of the shoulder girdle (glenohumeral, scapulo-thoracic& scapulo-humeral) and cervical spine is recommended for all participants of this course.

Past Course Testimonials

In January this year I was fortunate enough to attend the "Going Global" - Clinically Applied Postural Analysis and Biomechanics course presented by Tanya Bell-Jenje. The material covered was extensive and of great clinical value. This included the following concepts: Clinical Anatomy - An understanding of the 'Neutral Zone' - hypermobility and hypomobility; Local and Global muscles / 'Stabilisers' and 'Movers'; Inner unit / 'Core' and Outer unit / 'Slings'; Fascial tension and length; Muscle sequencing/recruitment; Motor control; Stability / Movement dysfunction and muscle reversal; Intrinsic and Extrinsic Injury Risk Factors; Postural analysis and Training/Biomechanics. The course was presented clearly with excellent instruction and visual aids. An exercise prescription program was also made available for use in the Clinical situation with well illustrated exercise regimes. This course and the quality of presentation is to be highly recommended.  Kim - Spinal Rehabilitation Therapist

I keep referring to your “Going Global notes. It has really helped me a lot in my rehabilitation programs as well as understanding the core functioning better. Thank you for the great work you are doing & sharing it with us. The CD we bought from you is also being used time and again. Sincerely, Walter

Hope your trip to Virginia was a good one! Thanks for having the CD's available to buy--I returned to the clinic today with some new energy and excitement--every patient got a new home program thanks to your CD's--they loved them and it made life 10x easier for me not to have to run to my myriad of folders and pick and choose. The course was great and informative and I look forward to the next one. Best regards, Rob

I attended your course in New York in February of this year and found it to be an exceptional course. Do you have any information on the Upper Quarter Course that you mentioned? Our company gives us an annual stipend and if you think you will do this course in the US in the Northeast I'll plan to attend. Thank you, Carol

Thanks so much for coming to White Plains and teaching the Going Global: the Lower Quarter.  I would be thrilled to have the Upper Quarter course taught at Burke as well.  I'm trying to teach all my patients in the acute care setting where I work the importance of stabilization of the inner unit.  Thanks again, and I appreciated all the lab time and exercises that we could apply immediately. Sincerely, Mary Lou

Just wanted to thank you for the course that you just recently did in Nashua, New Hampshire.  My fiance (Heidi) and I really enjoyed the course and are using alot of the information and techniques with fantastic results.  We were wondering if there is any way to go about getting the CD's of your exercises that you have compiled.  We just recently received the approval from management to get them if they are available.  Please let me know.  Also, when is the next time you will be in the States?  We have several co- workers that would like to attend one of you classes. Thank you again. Sincerely, Mike

THANK YOU to send the exercice again, I will do a copy to leave home to make sure I will always got it....!!!!!! I did good results, beat Vanesse Atkinson (6th world ranking) during the European team championship but France was already lost so....may be it will different in Wispa tournament, beat Fiona Geaves 10th twice in German league.
