The MAP (Myotatic Activation Procedure) course with Leoni Viljoen - CT; 27-28 March 2010 - R1650
MAP provides a fresh approach to assessment, diagnosis and treatment of LBP.
Discover the role of the Pelvis and Sacrum (to get to the base of) in LBP. Myotatic Activation Procedures will MAP out the different impairments (dysfunctions) of the SIJ, ISJ, Pubis symphysis and L5/S1 to identify and treat the cause of LBP.
Myotatic Activation Procedures are osteopathic manual therapy techniques used by physiotherapists in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and UK. These hands-on techniques are easy and effective in treating the cause of pain, rather than pain itself. It allows the body to align and correct itself without the need for passive manipulation to restore function. MAP compliments Maitland, Mulligan, McKenzie and other mobilisation techniques.
MAP addresses the joint, muscle and neural structures simultaneously – in one application. It provides a 3-in-1 Neuro-musculoskeletal technique in only 25 seconds. Yes, it works!! Come see and feel for yourself. This MAP course will definitely change the way you view and treat LBP. MAP will introduce new principles and will challenge your way of thinking!
Why would you want to do this course?
LBP is one of the most common conditions we as physiotherapists see, although it might still present us with a challenge every day. When the cause of the problem is correctly identified, it can be very responsive to treatment.
This course will provide you with the MAP and necessary tools to identify Biomechanical dysfunctions and treat LBP effectively.
- Expand your knowledge and expertise as a physiotherapist - broaden your horizon on how you view LBP:
- Understand how the Pelvis, Sacrum and Lumbar vertebrae relate, interact and compensate;
- L5 is the weakest link – MAP will show you its strengths;
- Sort out SIJ pain once and for all - discover the Sacrum;
- Come to grips with Piriformis syndrome and Sciatica - make the difference;
- Resolve hip & groin problems - find the hidden Pubic dysfunction;
- Give athletes the edge in their performance by eliminating predisposed factors which can cause injury.

Comments from course participants:
•Wow! Excellent! Very practical. I will apply the techniques tomorrow.
•This is a must for every physio!!! I will look a lot differently at my patients and
phone a few to use my new tool and correct their problems.
•Brilliantly presented – very insightful.
•New techniques – so simple, yet so effective!!
•Very relevant & practical and it works. I learned a lot!
•Very excited to try out new techniques. The manual makes it easy to learn. Thanx!
Learning Objectives and Outcomes:
• MAP enables the manual therapist to identify and treat Biomechanical dysfunctions and associated pain with the focus on function.
• The aim of MAP Techniques is to restore function and treat the cause of pain, rather than pain itself.
• Participants will gain a better understanding of how the human body functions and receive the necessary knowledge to explain pain by identifying biomechanical restrictions.
• The course provides a clinical, biomechanical and anatomical review of the Pelvis, Sacrum and Lumbar spine.
• Course topics include palpation skills, bony landmarks, functional and diagnostic tests.
• The course is designed to teach you how to identify and treat physical restrictions that limit your patients’ function.
• Emphasizing clinical examination, interpretation, differential diagnosis and treatment of dysfunctions.
• Participants will be able to accurately assess and diagnose Pelvic, Sacral and Lumbar dysfunctions.
• Also includes a comprehensive biomechanical assessment of the SIJ and Pubic Symphyses.
Aims of the MAP course:
• To provide or enhance knowledge of the classification and diagnosis of Biomechanical dysfunctions.
• To develop a confident biomechanical approach towards evaluation and manual treatment of the Pelvis, Sacrum and Lumbar spine.
• It focuses on developing clinical skills to assess, differentiate and treat dysfunctions of the Pelvis, Sacrum and Lumbar spine.
• To develop the ability to apply appropriate Myotatic Activation Procedures for the treatment of Biomechanical Dysfunctions.
