CRASH COURSE IN MEDICAL LAW AND ETHICS FOR PHYSIOS with Johann Roux; Jo'burg; 27 Nov 2010 - R950
A good awareness of the medico-legal and ethical aspects relating to physiotherapy is essential to all professionals. Medical Negligence litigation is showing a steady increase in South Africa and personal injury lawyers are looking at this branch of law with more interest. Physios need to be aware of the basic legal rights and duties relating to their practice to better protect themselves against the unsavory experience of a legal action.
The crash course is presented by an admitted attorney with right of appearance in the High Court of South Africa. It explains the legal concepts informed consent, confidentiality, medical negligence and right to Healthcare in a simple and understandable manner. Attendees are also given some practical advice on how to avoid being sued, what to do when sued and some advice on preparing medico-legal reports and testifying in court.
The course also examines the HPCSA Rules of Professional Conduct relating to Health Care in general and also some specific rules relating to physios. This serves as a quick refresher on Ethics with guidance on how these rules could be interpreted in certain scenarios.
This course aims to provide a sound knowledge on basic medical law and ethics as an important facet in the repertoire of the complete physiotherapist.
